MAGMA presents its second solo exhibition by Aubrey Tjangala, a Pintupi artist from Walungurru (Kintore) in the Western Desert. Tjangala’s work is grounded in the ancestral narratives, cultural knowledge and significant sites of his traditional Country.

The son of renowned artist Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, Aubrey belongs to a deep cultural and artistic lineage. Having spent more than four decades observing and learning from his father’s work, Tjangala has developed an expressive and colourful visual language, grounded by the bold geometry, rhythmic structures and expansive curvilinear compositions associated with the Western Desert painting movement.

Through layered fields of colour, intricate pattern and recurring geometric forms, Tjangala builds hypnotic compositions that give form to the ancestral journeys, significant sites and enduring legacy of the Tingari ancestors. Moving beyond the physical, the exhibition evokes the spiritual authority of Country and the enduring power of its ancestral narratives.
