Kim Westcott Finalist in Ravenswood Art Prize 2025

Congratulations Kim Westcott, whose work 'Forest of Light: Winter Il' has been selected as a finalist in the 2025 Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize.

This work premiered at Melbourne Art Fair earlier this year, where Westcott, drawing on her foundation as a printmaker, unveiled a suite of innovative works that blur the lines between printmaking and painting. In this series, she engraves cast acrylic with power tools, layering each piece with successive stages of carving and painting to build intricate networks of interwoven lines and luminous orbs. This particular work is highly saturated in composition, dense with mark making, colour, and texture. Viewed up close, the surface opens into microcosmic worlds: engraved orbs resemble root systems, cellular structures, or celestial bodies-simultaneously organic and cosmic in feel. Each work in the series is deeply rooted in Westcott's natural environment, drawing on the rhythms of the changing seasons, native flora and fauna, and the quiet vitality of the forest that surrounds her.

Congratulations to Kim and all other finalists. Winners will be announced 20 June.
