BANDARR WIRRPANDA: WÄŊA-WAṮAŊU - OWNERS OF THE LAND
Bandarr Wirrpanda is a young artist emerging into prominence as part of the found movement based in Yirrkala, NT. It achieved national recognition through “Murrŋiny - a story of metal from the east” exhibition in 2021 (featured on the Art Works - ABCTV). But his lineage runs much deeper. Through a famous award winning artist Galuma Maymuru (his mother) and her legendary father Narritjin Maymuru.
And beyond even this, into the very fabric of the ancestral history of his land, as expressed in these patterns.
